W3C Interop Tour: Event in Brussels 3 June 2002
(This page will be updated regularly.)
General information
On 3 June 2002 a W3C event will take place in Brussels organised
by the Benelux W3C Office in the context of the
"W3C Interop Tour".
A similar one-day event will also take place in other European cities
on different dates.
The subject of these events is "WWW Interoperability". The Web
is an application built on top of the Internet and, as such, has
inherited its fundamental design principles. Along with evolution (accomodate
future technologies) and decentralization (eliminate dependencies),
interoperability implies that specifications for the Web's languages and
protocols must be compatible with one another and allow (any) hardware and
software used to access the Web to work together.
This concept of "Interoperability" closely relates to the mission of
W3C, that produces and publishes on XML based "Recommendations" ("standards",
specifications) for further Web evolution. XML for instance was a
"Recommendation", that originated from W3C in 1998.
Today the current and future WWW without XML would be unthinkable.
